Product Overview
Metal oxide arresters (zinc oxide arresters) are currently the most effective overvoltage protection devices, widely used in power generation, transmission, transformation and distribution systems to protect the insulation of electrical equipment from overvoltage damage. Their core components adopt zinc oxide resistor discs with excellent "nonlinear volt-ampere" characteristics, greatly improving overvoltage current carrying capacity, thus bringing fundamental changes to arrester characteristics. Under normal operating voltage, the current through the arrester is only microampere level. When subjected to overvoltage, due to the nonlinearity of zinc oxide resistance, the current through the arrester instantly reaches thousands of amperes, and the arrester is in a conducting state, releasing overvoltage energy, thereby effectively limiting overvoltage damage to transmission and transformation equipment.
Organic housing metal oxide arresters are a scientific research achievement combining organic insulation materials with traditional porcelain housing metal oxide arrester technology advantages. They not only have the advantages of porcelain housing metal oxide arresters, but also have outstanding advantages such as good electrical insulation performance, high dielectric strength, anti-tracking, anti-corrosion, heat resistance, cold resistance, aging resistance, explosion-proof, hydrophobicity, and good sealing performance.
HY5WX-35kV line type zinc oxide arrester is suitable for AC 220kV and below power generation, transmission, transformation and distribution systems, used to limit the amplitude of lightning and system internal operating overvoltages to specified levels, and is the basic equipment for system insulation coordination. It is an ideal lightning protection component for integrated, modular medium and high voltage transmission and transformation complete equipment. This series of arrester models includes HY5WX-51/134, HY5WX-54/150, HY5CX-42/120, HY5CX-42/150, meeting different line lightning protection requirements.
Main Features of Zinc Oxide Arrester
1. Excellent Protection Characteristics
Zinc oxide arresters are electrical products used to protect various electrical equipment in power systems from overvoltage damage. Due to the excellent nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics of zinc oxide valve plates, only a few hundred microamperes of current pass under normal operating voltage, making it convenient to design gapless structures with small size, light weight and good protection performance. When overvoltage intrudes, the current through the valve plate increases rapidly, while limiting the overvoltage amplitude and releasing overvoltage energy. After that, the zinc oxide valve plate returns to high impedance state, allowing the power system to operate normally.

2. Large Current Carrying Capacity
The current carrying capacity of zinc oxide arresters indicates the ability to absorb various lightning overvoltages, switching overvoltages and power frequency transient overvoltages. The current carrying capacity of zinc oxide arresters produced by FAURE Gaosuo Electric Co., Ltd. fully complies with and even exceeds national standard requirements. Indicators such as 4/10 nanosecond high current impulse withstand, 2ms square wave current capacity, line discharge level and energy absorption capability have reached the domestic leading level.
3. Power Frequency Withstand Capability
In power systems, due to various reasons such as single-phase grounding, long line capacitance effect and load shedding, power frequency voltage rise or transient overvoltages with higher amplitude may occur. Arresters have the ability to withstand certain power frequency voltage rise within a certain time.
4. Good Pollution Resistance
Gapless zinc oxide arresters have high pollution resistance. The minimum specific creepage distance of the housing used in Gaosuo Electric's mass-produced arresters is 30mm/kv. The national standard specified creepage distance grades are: Class II medium pollution areas: specific creepage distance 20mm/kv; Class III heavy pollution areas: specific creepage distance 25mm/kv; Class IV very heavy pollution areas: specific creepage distance 31mm/kv.
5. High Operational Reliability
The long-term operational reliability of zinc oxide arresters depends on product quality and whether the product selection is reasonable. The following three aspects have important impacts on product quality: A. Volt-ampere characteristics and aging resistance of zinc oxide valve plates; B. Sealing performance of the arrester; C. Rationality of the overall structure of the arrester. The zinc oxide valve plates produced by our company have all passed the aging test at 115degC, 1000H, with charge rate of 85-95% according to national standard requirements. The test results prove that their anti-aging performance is excellent.
6. Good Sealing Performance
Arrester components use high-quality composite housing and ceramic housing with good air tightness and aging resistance as sealing materials. Measures such as controlling sealing ring compression and applying additional sealant are adopted to ensure reliable sealing and stable arrester performance. Sealing tests use multiple complementary methods. Each product undergoes two-level inspection by the workshop and quality inspection department, ensuring that non-conforming products do not leave the company. The leakage rate of arresters detected by ZHP-10 helium mass spectrometer leak detector is not greater than 6.65×10-5 Pa.L/S.
Applicable Standards
This product model is compiled according to JB/T8459-1996 "Arrester Product Model Designation Method". Gapless products comply with GB11032-2000 "AC Gapless Metal Oxide Arresters"; gapped products comply with JB/T9672-2005 "Metal Oxide Arresters with Series Gaps". Important parameters and configuration methods not clearly defined in the above standards shall be modified and implemented according to DL/T620-1997 "Overvoltage Protection and Insulation Coordination of AC Electrical Installations".
