10kV gapless zinc oxide arrester HY5WS-17/50 distribution type arrester has become commonly used equipment in international power systems and is widely applied in China's power grids.

Metal oxide arresters (zinc oxide arresters) are currently the most effective type of overvoltage protection devices, widely used in power generation, transmission, transformation and distribution systems to protect the insulation of electrical equipment from overvoltage damage. Their core components adopt excellent "nonlinear volt-ampere" characteristics, greatly improving overvoltage current carrying capacity, bringing fundamental changes to arrester characteristics.

Under normal operating voltage, the current through the arrester is only microampere level. When subjected to overvoltage, due to the nonlinearity of zinc oxide resistance, the current through the arrester instantly reaches thousands of amperes, and the arrester is in a conducting state, releasing overvoltage energy, thereby effectively limiting overvoltage damage to transmission and transformation equipment.

Organic housing metal oxide arresters combine organic insulation materials with traditional porcelain housing arrester technology advantages. They not only have the advantages of porcelain housing arresters, but also have good electrical insulation performance, high dielectric strength, anti-tracking, anti-corrosion, heat resistance, cold resistance, aging resistance, explosion-proof, hydrophobicity, and good sealing performance.

HY5WS-10kV zinc oxide arrester is suitable for AC 220kV and below power generation, transmission, transformation and distribution systems, used to limit the amplitude of lightning and system internal operating overvoltages to specified levels. It is the basic equipment for system insulation coordination and a high-quality lightning protection component for integrated, modular medium and high voltage transmission and transformation complete equipment.

Installation and Usage Requirements

  • 10kV distribution type zinc oxide arresters must be installed vertically;
  • Long-term bearing of self-weight and lead tension, horizontal or inclined installation will reduce the tensile strength of the housing;
  • Insulation sealing is easily damaged, even causing arrester fracture;
  • In humid environments, the surface flashover voltage is easily reduced, causing surface breakdown;
  • The electrodynamic force generated by overvoltage will aggravate sealing damage and shorten service life.

  • Parameters not clearly defined shall be implemented according to DL/T620-1997 "Overvoltage Protection and Insulation Coordination of AC Electrical Installations".
